🎉 The Ministry of Transport has approved the preparation of the Brașov suburban rail (commuter rail) project, which may also include Sfântu Gheorghe and nearby settlements.
📍 According to State Secretary Horațiu Cosma, the ministerial order signed in early June 2026 officially enables cooperation between the Romanian State Railways (CFR) and local authorities. This partnership establishes the legal framework for the planning, implementation, and future operation of suburban rail systems.
📍 The initiative aims to create a faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly transport network for the settlements around Brașov. According to the plans, services on the Sfântu Gheorghe–Brașov line would connect several localities, including Sfântu Gheorghe, Chilieni, Uzon, Cökös, Prejmer, Hărman, Bod, and Brașov.
📍 One important advantage of the project is that it could provide a more direct connection to Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport, which would not only make travel easier for passengers but also contribute to the region’s economic and tourism development.
📍 Although the investment is still in the preparatory phase, this decision represents an important milestone. ✨ If implemented, the project could integrate Sfântu Gheorghe and surrounding settlements into a more modern, reliable, and sustainable public transport system. 🙏
